Your Universe

Pocket worlds are the playground on which your adventures unfold. Every Adventurer needs to create one as a reflection of their kid’s imagination.

All details considered, your pitch should fit on a playing card (portrait or landscape, no judgment here).

Whatever concept you are thinking about, you can use our three golden rules for world building. We created them out of countless hours of playtests, noting which type of Pocket world sticks and which ones tend to flop.

If you can’t explain your world in one sentence, it’s probably trying too hard. Start with a familiar fantasy, a well-known mood or place, and add a grain of salt. That’s probably enough. You can tap into books, games, or movies you know shamelessly. In fact, it is actually recommended!

Your world should be easy to approach and spark imagination.

You’re not writing a full story. You’re creating a place where things can happen. Feed off your friends’ ideas to grow your world during the adventure. Allow them to own parts of it, that’s how you make them care about it! Let it feel mysterious, playful, and unfinished.

The fun is in what gets discovered during play.

Pocket party is meant to be a whimsical game. That doesn’t mean it can’t get serious at times, but the general mood is definitely tipping toward chaotic action! Your world doesn’t have to make sense. It just has to be fun to poke, stretch, and run around in.

There should always be something to laugh about.

If you are struggling to find something that you like, we have a wide collection of Pocket Worlds ready to go on the website to kickstart your imagination.

Avatars

When travelling to Pocket worlds, your character will take the form of an almighty Avatar!

If you have a lot of time in front of you, each Player should create an Avatar for every Pocket world in play, even ones made by their friend. If the clock is ticking, keep it simple and create just one Avatar: the one from your own world.

Avatars are a reflection of the Pocket world they are from. Take the time to talk with your friends about their creation and try to enrich it with your Avatar idea.

What is your Avatar’s shape and form? What sets them apart visually? Take the time to describe them and focus on what makes them recognizable so that your friends can imagine them in action once you pull a daring move!

If you feel short of ideas, look at the table below!

1 A silly aspect that lightens the mood.
2 An iconic aspect that inspires respect.
3 A spooky aspect that unsettles foes.
4 A mysterious aspect that invites curiosity.
5 A dazzling aspect that’s impossible to ignore.
6 A gentle aspect that puts others at ease.
7 A heroic aspect that sparks hope.
8 An abstract aspect that is just puzzling.
9 A cute aspect that you cannot resist.
10 A mundane aspect that fits everywhere.

Your Avatar can do at least one thing no one else can in the Pocket world. This power is probably what the common folks of this world refer to you by. Because powers can get a bit out of hand, they need to be vetted by everyone around the table!

Here is a table to help spark imagination!

1 You summon something special.
2 You shape an aspect of the world.
3 You sense something hidden to most.
4 You are bound to a greater force.
5 You transform into a special form.
6 You communicate with abstract forces.
7 You radiate a unique energy.
8 You bypass a fundamental rule.
9 You manifest something intangible.
10 You wield a powerful object.

To craft an Avatar card, simply write “AVATAR”, along with the name of the pocket dimension in all caps on top. Then describe your avatar appearance and power with a simple sentence at the bottom. If you have space, you can draw a cool picture for bonus style points!
