Jam-packed!

Each game of Pocket party is called an Episode. Each Episode is a self-contained adventure, with a hook, some action and a thrilling conclusion! The format is a love letter to our childhood cartoons, but also a healthy way to create stakes and give Adventurers a strong conclusion at the end of the session.

Episodes can last as long as you wish, but we recommend keeping them between 2 to 4 hours to both have time to go through the story and keep the momentum high.

To help you kickstart your Episodes, we created a table filled with hooks that you can build upon. Pick one, roll one at random or come up with your own.

1 A common aspect of the world feels slightly off.
2 Some weird phenomenon is getting out of hand.
3 Friendly folks are under attack.
4 Something powerful falls into the wrong hands.
5 A long-forgotten place has suddenly returned.
6 An important part of the world is collapsing.
7 A vital resource is suddenly running low.
8 Someone important has gone missing.
9 A massive celebration is about to begin.
10 Something powerful is waking up.

Episodes formats

The “Pocket classic” episode takes place in a single dimension, owned by one of the Adventurers. It has the group of brave kids venturing into an amazing world to battle against Local villains under the influence of the Big bad evil.

Classic episodes can be chained together to create a Season, where adventure leads to a final confrontation with the threat pulling the strings from the shadows!

If you have 2 or 3 players and a single session, you can up the pace from a classic episode and run a “Dimension marathon” Episode.

Imagine the structure of the classic episode, compressed and on steroids, multiplied by the number of players. That’s it. You will go through each Player’s Pocket world and face challenges at high pace in a succession of micro adventures, each with their own narrative arc.

More plots, more Local villains, more fun!

If you have 4 or more players and still want to organize a single game, we recommend running a “Multiverse mayhem” Episode.

In this format, we imagine an exceptional event has broken the barriers between all dimensions. Now all the worlds created by the Adventurers are shuffled into one big universe. That’s as chaotic as it gets!

Let your imagination run amok: have Local villains from different worlds team up, factions of candy men going to war against droids, or any crazy idea that the table can come up with.

Boy do we know how much gamers like to homebrew. And we love it!

We encourage you to come up with new, unique formats for Pocket party and share them with the community. You can join our discord server to discuss formats created by other players or share your own!

Episode Checklist

To help Players keep Episodes on track, we created a cheat list that you can have handy during the game. It is not a mandatory structure, but rather a guideline to fall back on if you ever feel lost:

  • At the beginning of the Episode, a strong hook pushed Adventurers to act immediately.
  • Adventurers got strong leads as to how to deal with threats, problems, mysteries.
  • Adventurers faced one or multiple Local villains.
  • The Big bad evil intervened at least once to block the Adventurers.
  • Each Player got to enjoy the spotlight at least once.
  • We created at least one new element of the Pocket world during the game.
  • We came to a solid conclusion to the stakes built during the episode.

If you are playing a Season:

  • Adventurers obtained clues about the Big bad evil identity: background, plans, powers, etc.
  • At the end of the game, we created Canons and an Evil aspect.
